Secondo Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff (1866–1949), the human being is like a carriage: the body is the vehicle, the emotions are the horses, the mind is the coachman, and true consciousness—the “Master”—is the passenger, often asleep. In ordinary life, the horses run wildly, the coachman is confused, and the Master is absent or dormant. Ecstatic dance acts as a powerful practice to awaken the Master (consciousness). Through free and non-judgmental movement, it quiets the chatter of the mind (the coachman), reconnects us to the wisdom of the body (the carriage), and allows emotions (the horses) to express themselves and be observed without identification. This process of alignment between body, mind, and emotions creates a state of intense presence—an inner stillness where the guidance of the Master can finally be heard. It is the search for that deep connection that Franco Battiato, himself an explorer of these inner landscapes, beautifully captured in his verse:
“…And I come to seek you… because I need your presence.”
A longing for that inner “voice of the Master” that gives meaning and direction to the journey. For this practice, there will be a live mix by Tito accompanying the experience, with the music itself as its core. No dance experience is needed: there are no right steps or choreographies to follow. You don’t even have to dance at all. You can let your body move freely—or simply remain still.
Even in stillness, the dance continues to unfold—quietly, within you.
